Daytona Beach is well known for its beach where hard packed sand allows motorized vehicles to drive on the beach in certain areas. Its special sand and raceway facilities have made it a destination for motorsport racing. The city is also the headquarters for NASCAR and the Grand American Road Racing Association. Large groups of visitors descend upon Daytona Beach for events like the Speedweeks in early February. At this time of year, 200,000 NASCAR enthusiasts come to attend the Daytona 500.
